Baird Parker Agar, for Staphylococcus, 15x100mm Plate
Baird Parker Agar is a selective and differential medium designed for the detection and enumeration of coagulase-positive Staphylococcus aureus and related species from food, dairy, and beverage samples.
The medium is formulated with lithium chloride and potassium tellurite, which inhibit most Gram-negative and non-staphylococcal organisms, while glycine, sodium pyruvate, and casein digest support the recovery of stressed Staphylococcus cells. Colonies of S. aureus typically appear as black, shiny, convex colonies surrounded by a clear halo zone, resulting from lecithinase and lipase activity.
Ideal for food and beverage quality assurance testing, HACCP programs, and microbial enumeration in fermentation environments, Baird Parker Agar provides reliable differentiation based on colony color and morphology, ensuring consistent results in routine pathogen screening.
Features and Benefits:
• Selective for coagulase-positive Staphylococcus aureus
• Supports accurate enumeration and differentiation from background flora
• Produces characteristic black colonies with clear halo zones
• Ideal for food, beverage, and environmental testing applications
• Heavy-duty, optically clear polystyrene plates reduce breakage
• Raised stacking rings prevent sliding and enhance incubation stability
• Breathable packaging prevents moisture buildup and condensation
