CRITERION™ Buffered Peptone Water (BPW) is a dehydrated culture medium formulated for the non-selective pre-enrichment of microorganisms, particularly for the recovery of injured Salmonella spp. and other bacteria from food, water, cannabis, and environmental samples.

This medium is widely used in ISO, BAM, and FDA testing protocols as an essential first step before selective enrichment and plating. Buffered Peptone Water neutralizes harmful effects of food preservatives, sanitizers, and drying stress that can inhibit bacterial growth, promoting rapid repair and recovery of sublethally injured cells.

The CRITERION™ formulation is supplied as a 500g dehydrated powder in a wide-mouth bottle for easy weighing, measuring, and dispensing in laboratory environments. It reconstitutes easily in distilled water and provides consistent performance batch to batch.
