CRITERION™ MacConkey Agar by Hardy Diagnostics is a selective and differential medium formulated for the isolation of Gram-negative bacilli, including coliform organisms and enteric pathogens. The medium utilizes bile salts and crystal violet to inhibit Gram-positive bacteria while incorporating lactose and neutral red to differentiate fermenters from non-fermenters.

Lactose-fermenting organisms typically produce pink to red colonies, while non-fermenters remain colorless, enabling rapid presumptive identification in clinical diagnostics, food safety workflows, and environmental microbiology.

As part of the CRITERION™ line, this dehydrated culture media provides superior solubility, consistent color development, and robust microbial recovery, meeting the demands of high-throughput labs.
