Hardy Diagnostics Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) Levine Agar is a selective and differential medium used for the isolation and differentiation of Gram-negative enteric bacilli, particularly from clinical, environmental, and food samples.

The medium contains eosin Y and methylene blue dyes that act as indicators and inhibitors of Gram-positive bacteria, making it highly effective for differentiating lactose fermenters from non-lactose fermenters. Lactose fermenters such as Escherichia coli form colonies with dark centers and a characteristic metallic green sheen, while non-lactose fermenters produce pink or colorless colonies. The formulation also supports the growth of yeasts such as Candida spp., making it suitable for mixed-sample environments.

Each plate is manufactured using optically clear polystyrene for distortion-free viewing and precision monitoring of colony morphology. Heavy-duty construction ensures durability during handling, and breathable packaging prevents condensation buildup while maintaining sterility and freshness.

Features and Benefits:
• Selective and differential medium for Gram-negative enteric bacteria
• Detects lactose fermentation via distinctive colony color changes
• Supports E. coli identification with characteristic green metallic sheen
• Inhibits Gram-positive organisms using eosin and methylene blue dyes
• Optically clear plates for distortion-free viewing
• Stacking rings prevent plate slippage during incubation or storage
• Breathable packaging prevents excess condensation and moisture buildup
• Heavy-duty polystyrene reduces breakage and improves handling stability

Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) Levine Agar is a selective and differential medium for isolating Gram-negative bacilli and differentiating lactose fermenters from non-fermenters. Packaged in breathable sleeves of 10 ready-to-use 100 mm plates.
