MacConkey Agar, USP, 15x100mm Plate
MacConkey Agar, USP is a selective and differential medium recommended for the isolation and differentiation of Gram-negative bacteria, particularly members of the Enterobacteriaceae family.
This classic formulation utilizes bile salts and crystal violet to inhibit Gram-positive organisms, allowing the growth of Gram-negative enteric bacteria while differentiating lactose fermenters from non-fermenters. Lactose fermenters, such as Escherichia coli, produce pink to red colonies, while non-lactose fermenters, such as Salmonella and Shigella, appear colorless or transparent.
Hardy Diagnostics’ USP-grade MacConkey Agar features an advanced formula that controls the swarming of Proteus species, ensuring clear colony separation and improved diagnostic accuracy.
Each plate is produced from optically clear, heavy-duty polystyrene for distortion-free viewing and stacked stability. The breathable packaging prevents condensation and maintains consistent plate quality, ideal for clinical, pharmaceutical, and quality control laboratories.
Features and Benefits:
• Selective and differential for Gram-negative enteric bacteria
• Differentiates lactose fermenters (pink/red colonies) from non-fermenters (colorless colonies)
• USP formulation with enhanced control of Proteus swarming
• Ideal for clinical, pharmaceutical, and QC applications
• Optically clear, heavy-duty polystyrene plates for distortion-free observation
• Stacking rings prevent slippage during handling
• Breathable packaging minimizes condensation and extends shelf life
