MacConkey Agar, USP is a selective and differential medium formulated for the isolation and differentiation of Gram-negative bacteria, particularly members of the Enterobacteriaceae family.

This USP-grade formulation combines bile salts and crystal violet to suppress Gram-positive organisms, enabling clear growth and differentiation of Gram-negative enteric bacteria. Lactose fermenters (such as Escherichia coli) produce pink to red colonies, while non-lactose fermenters (such as Salmonella and Shigella) form colorless or transparent colonies.

The advanced Hardy Diagnostics formulation also includes modifications that control the swarming of Proteus spp., ensuring well-isolated colonies and improving accuracy in both clinical and pharmaceutical applications.

Each plate is molded from optically clear, heavy-duty polystyrene for distortion-free viewing and secure stacking. Plates are packaged in breathable sleeves of 10, sealed in cases of 100 for convenient laboratory inventory management and long-term use.
