Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA), USP, for the differentiation of Staphylococcus
Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA), USP is a selective and differential medium widely used for the isolation and identification of Staphylococcus species, especially Staphylococcus aureus. Its high salt concentration (7.5%) inhibits most organisms except staphylococci, while mannitol fermentation allows differentiation between S. aureus (mannitol positive, yellow colonies/yellow halo) and S. epidermidis (mannitol negative, pink/red colonies).
Plates are manufactured using optically clear, high-quality polystyrene for distortion-free viewing and filled for consistent plate depth and performance. Heavy-duty construction, raised stacking rings, and breathable packaging ensure durability and reduced condensation during storage and transport.
This medium is widely used in cannabis QA testing, food safety, pharmaceutical manufacturing, cosmetics testing, and general microbiology.
