Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA), USP is a selective and differential medium widely used for the isolation and identification of Staphylococcus species, especially Staphylococcus aureus. Its high salt concentration (7.5%) inhibits most organisms except staphylococci, while mannitol fermentation allows differentiation between S. aureus (mannitol positive, yellow colonies/yellow halo) and S. epidermidis (mannitol negative, pink/red colonies).

Plates are manufactured using optically clear, high-quality polystyrene for distortion-free viewing and filled for consistent plate depth and performance. Heavy-duty construction, raised stacking rings, and breathable packaging ensure durability and reduced condensation during storage and transport.

This medium is widely used in cannabis QA testing, food safety, pharmaceutical manufacturing, cosmetics testing, and general microbiology.

Key Features
• Selective medium for Staphylococcus spp.
• Differentiates mannitol fermenters (S. aureus) from non-fermenters (S. epidermidis)
• High salt concentration inhibits non-staphylococcal organisms
• Clear, easy-to-read colony morphology and color reactions
• Optically clear, durable polystyrene plates
• Raised stacking rings prevent sliding
• Breathable sleeves minimize moisture buildup

Applications
• Cannabis QA and microbial contamination testing
• Food safety & environmental monitoring
• Cosmetic and personal care product testing
• Clinical and research microbiology
• Pharmaceutical QC

Performance Notes
• S. aureus: Yellow colonies/yellow medium
• S. epidermidis: Pink to red colonies/no color change
• Incubation at 35–37°C for 24–48 hours
