2,2′-Azobis(2-methylpropionamidine) dihydrochloride (AAPH) is a water-soluble free radical initiator supplied as a white powder or granules with 97% assay purity. It is widely used in polymer chemistry and oxidative stress research due to its controlled thermal decomposition into free radicals.
AAPH undergoes first-order thermal decomposition to generate cationic radicals and decomposes upon UV exposure. It is commonly used as a polymerization initiator for acrylic, vinyl, and allyl monomers and is compatible with cationic surfactant systems. The decomposition rate is pH dependent, making it useful in controlled radical generation studies.
