Dithiothreitol (DTT), ≥97% purity, crystalline powder, is a strong thiol-based reducing agent widely used in protein chemistry and molecular biology. Commonly known as Cleland’s reagent, DTT reduces disulfide bonds in proteins and peptides, maintaining sulfhydryl (–SH) groups in their reduced state.

DTT is frequently used in:

SDS-PAGE sample preparation

Enzyme reactivation studies

Protein isolation and purification workflows

Reduction of disulfide bridges in biochemical assays

DNA extraction protocols

Maintenance of reduced cysteine residues in buffer systems

Compared to 2-mercaptoethanol, DTT is less volatile and typically effective at lower concentrations. It is supplied as crystalline powder for laboratory preparation of fresh reducing solutions.
