The PYR Test Kit is a rapid, reliable enzymatic test used for the identification of Group A Streptococcus and Enterococcus species — both strongly PYR-positive. All other streptococci test negative, making this a more dependable method than bacitracin for Group A Strep identification.
Each PYR disk contains L-pyrrolidonyl-β-naphthylamide, a substrate that detects pyrrolidonyl peptidase activity. In the presence of this enzyme, the reagent produces a distinct red color in as little as 3 minutes. The large 3/8-inch disks offer easy handling and a clearer reaction zone, while the included cinnamaldehyde PYR reagent ensures consistent, vivid results.
