Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar is a highly selective and differential medium formulated for the isolation, cultivation, and differentiation of Vibrio species, including V. cholerae and V. parahaemolyticus, from environmental, marine, and clinical samples.

The selective properties of TCBS Agar suppress the growth of most non-Vibrio microorganisms through the inclusion of bile salts, thiosulfate, and high pH, while sucrose fermentation allows for easy colony differentiation:

Vibrio cholerae ferments sucrose, producing yellow colonies.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus does not ferment sucrose, forming blue-green colonies.

This agar medium provides clear and reliable results, making it ideal for testing seafood, seawater, wastewater, and other marine-related samples in food safety and environmental quality programs.

Each plate is manufactured using optically clear, heavy-duty polystyrene for distortion-free visualization and reliable colony counting. The raised stacking rings enhance stability during handling, and the breathable packaging prevents condensation and maintains plate sterility during storage.

Features and Benefits:
• Selective and differential medium for isolating Vibrio spp.
• Distinguishes sucrose-fermenting and non-fermenting species by colony color
• Ideal for testing seafood, seawater, and environmental samples
• Optically clear polystyrene for distortion-free visualization
• Durable, heavy-duty plates minimize breakage during transport
• Breathable packaging prevents condensation and maintains media integrity

Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar is a selective and differential medium used to isolate and identify Vibrio species. Yellow colonies indicate sucrose fermentation; blue-green colonies indicate non-fermenters. Packaged 10 plates per sleeve.
