XLT4 (Xylose-Lysine-Tergitol 4) Agar Plates
Hardy Diagnostics XLT4 (Xylose-Lysine-Tergitol 4) Agar Plates are a selective and differential medium formulated for the isolation and differentiation of non-typhi Salmonella species from food, environmental, and clinical samples.
XLT4 Agar is based on the xylose-lysine-desoxycholate (XLD) formulation with the addition of Tergitol 4, a surfactant that inhibits the growth of competing gram-positive and coliform bacteria. This enhancement significantly improves the recovery of Salmonella while reducing background flora, making it a trusted choice for laboratories following FDA-BAM, USDA-FSIS, and ISO 6579 protocols for pathogen detection.
The medium produces characteristic red colonies with or without black centers, aiding rapid identification of suspect Salmonella isolates. Each plate is prepared in optically clear, heavy-duty polystyrene with stacking rings to ensure stability during incubation and storage.
Features and Benefits:
• Selective for non-typhi Salmonella species
• Incorporates Tergitol 4 to inhibit background flora and enhance selectivity
• Red colonies with or without black centers simplify Salmonella detection
• Conforms to BAM, USDA, and ISO methods for food and environmental testing
• Optically clear polystyrene ensures distortion-free viewing
• Heavy-duty plate construction reduces breakage during shipping and handling
• Raised stacking rings prevent plate slippage
• Breathable bag packaging minimizes condensation buildup
• Manufactured under ISO-certified quality management systems
